Attracting Investment and Supporting Rural Enterprise
During apartheid, South Africa’s ‘Black’ rural areas were deliberately starved of investment and skills – resulting in low economic output and high unemployment. Twenty-five years later, the vast potential of rural land and labour remains untapped. InvestRural works with communities, government and the private sector to attract investment, build rural enterprise and create 1 million rural jobs.

Agriculture
Agriculture is the driving force of the rural economy. By developing subsistence and emerging farmers we can transform rural livelihoods.
Traditional areas are home to much of South Africa’s mineral wealth. If properly developed, these resources can generate long term prosperity for mining communities.
Rural retailers provide the goods that people rely on every day. Their development can stimulate job creation and ensure that rural incomes drive local economic development.
Manufacturing, even at a small-scale, can uplift rural economies. It creates well-paid jobs, a market for rural farmers, and opportunities in other industries.
Opportunities for small enterprise are present in every sector of the rural economy. These businesses will accelerate economic growth and create much needed jobs.
